Dr. Mardy-Davis is Guest Speaker at IC Support Group of Metro Atlanta
Woodley Mardy-Davis, M.D. of Spine Care & Pain Management was recently the guest speaker at the Interstitial Cystitis Support Group of Metro Atlanta. Dr. Mardy-Davis specializes an interventional pain management.
Interstitial cystitis (IC), also called painful bladder syndrome, is a chronic condition characterized by a combination of uncomfortable bladder pressure, bladder pain and sometimes pain in the pelvis, which can range from mild burning or discomfort to severe pain. It is unknown exactly was causes IC and it affects an estimated 1 million Americans. While it can affect children and men, most of those affected are women. IC can have a long-lasting adverse impact on the quality of life.
Dr. Mardy-Davis discussed various treatment options of IC with those in attendance and explained how pain management physicians work along with urologists to help patients find lasting relief. Dr. Mardy-Davis also strongly believes that chronic sufferers of IC may benefit from support groups. Support groups can offer information, a place to share experiences and help patients feel less isolated.
Kiley Reynolds, D.O., a fellow physician at Spine Care & Pain Management, attended the meeting as well and answered questions along with Dr. Mardy-Davis during the question and answer session at the end of her presentation.
Dr. Mardy-Davis was educated at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ. She completed her residency and fellowship at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Mardy-Davis and Dr. Reynolds are both board certified in anesthesiology and pain management.
